With solutions like EcoVadis Ratings, IQ-Plus Risk & Compliance Management, and the Carbon Action Module for Scope 3 Decarbonization, EcoVadis helps businesses across 250 industries in 185 countries enhance their ESG performance. Key tools like 360/Live News Monitoring, Academy E-learning, and Corrective Action Plans support companies in reducing GHG emissions, navigating complex regulations, and building a more sustainable future.
In today’s business world, sustainability is not just a trend—it’s a critical factor for success. As companies face increasing pressure to enhance transparency and improve sustainability practices, EcoVadis medals reward businesses that demonstrate exceptional sustainability management. The medals are a clear sign of leadership, and in the EcoVadis framework, they classify rated companies into four distinct categories:
- • Platinum: Top 1% (99th percentile)
- • Gold: Top 5% (95th percentile)
- • Silver: Top 15% (85th percentile)
- • Bronze: Top 35% (65th percentile)
These prestigious medals are awarded based on a company’s score (0–100) and percentile rank, calculated from performance across all industries over the last 12 months. EcoVadis evaluates companies through a lens of four key sustainability pillars:
- • Environment: operations (energy consumption, water, biodiversity, local and accidental pollution, materials, chemicals and waste) and products (product use, product end-of-life, customer health and safety, environmental services and advocacy)
- • Labor and Human Rights: human resources (employee health and safety, working conditions, social dialogue, career management & training) and human rights (diversity, discrimination, harassment, child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, external stakeholder human rights)
- • Ethics (consumption, anticompetitive practices, responsible information management)
- • Sustainable Procurement (supplier environmental practices, supplier social practices)
EcoVadis’ methodology is grounded in 21 sustainability criteria aligned with international standards, enabling businesses to monitor and improve their sustainability efforts continually.
Embracing Sustainability
Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword – it’s become a driving force behind smart business decisions. More than ever, companies are under pressure to ensure their practices benefit not just their bottom line but also the planet, their people, and society at large. In fact, 91% of companies now take sustainability into account when choosing their suppliers, making it a crucial factor in business partnerships. Consumers are also aligning their purchasing decisions with sustainability, with 85% of buyers opting for companies with strong sustainability reputations over those that are neutral. This growing demand is reshaping industries and creating new business opportunities.
However, sustainability isn’t just about what consumers see, it’s increasingly about regulatory compliance. Over the past decade, 10 out of 10 major supply chain regulations introduced globally have focused on sustainability, underscoring the need for businesses to stay ahead of the curve. Failing to meet these evolving standards could mean losing out on market access, facing penalties, or damaging a brand’s reputation.
The good news? Assessing sustainability through platforms like EcoVadis provides a clear roadmap for improvement. With sustainability evaluations rooted in international frameworks, businesses gain valuable insights into their performance and pinpoint areas for growth. This transparency not only helps mitigate risk but also boosts competitiveness, ensuring that companies are not just meeting today’s demands but are well-prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.
Embracing sustainability is no longer optional, it’s essential for thriving in today’s marketplace. By integrating sustainability into the core of their operations, businesses can unlock long-term growth, foster stronger relationships, and build a reputation that resonates with today’s conscientious consumers and regulators alike. This December, we started our sustainability journey, joining responsible businesses worldwide in making a positive impact.
